Which Maruti Swift Variant Should I Buy - Compared Swift VXI or VDI
79Usage and requirement are the two factors in deciding which Swift variant you should buy, VXI or VDI, I mean petrol or diesel. Both are great cars for daily driving of 50 to 60 km but if fuel bills are of a concern to you, then go ahead for Swift VDI and you will also get the advantage of turbo in this engine. Swift diesel engine is from Fiat and it has won several awards like Best International Diesel Engine Award.
Even Tata is using the same engine in Indica and Indigo and both cars have performed well in the past years. If you drive 50 to 60 km/day, then definitely buy a car with VDI because petrol cannot take much strain and is not suited for long drives and constant use.
Compared Swift VXI or VDI - Buy Performance Wise and Advantage
Now you will think that “how true petrol engine cannot take as much strain as a diesel engine?” It is as simple as why long distance vehicles such as trucks, buses, SUV'S, and other heavy load carrying vehicles are made only of diesel engine, not petrol just because the torque of a diesel engine is much higher than a petrol engine that too at very low engine speeds. A small four cylinder diesel engine can very easily produce pulling power that is produced by a six-cylinder petrol engine.
That’s why I am suggesting VDI also considering if your usage is 50 to 60 km per day since diesel engines give better mileage than petrol engines and it is much cheaper than petrol.
Which Car You Will Buy - Swift VXI or VDI?

Torque is important for acceleration but equally important is the RPM at which it is being generated. The test figures will tell you which is a faster car. It is the petrol. But the diesel gives a perception of being faster. The reason is high amount of torque at lower engine RPM as compared to the petrol. But then it peaks at 2000 RPM and falls steadily. Moreover you cannot rev the diesel above 5000 RPM. In petrol, you still have 1500 RPM to go before redlining, so a petrol car can better utilize that additional rev range by gearing. Also, the acceleration of the car depends largely on the torque delivered to the wheels at particular speeds. If you do a speed wise break down, you will see that the petrol Swift will have more torque at the wheels majority of times as compared to a diesel swift because you will have to shift to a higher gear in a diesel much earlier than in the petrol.
But in actual driving conditions, the diesel does give the perception of being a faster car because of higher amount of torques available at lower RPMS, especially in the third gear, you don’t have much torque available in petrol at say 30 kilometers per hour, but the diesel has loads of it since it would have just started to climb to the torque peak. Hence a diesel would zoom ahead at that stage. For a petrol car to keep up, it will have to down shift to second gear. That takes time and in traffic by the time you make up its time to slow down. That’s why we say a diesel car is much more drivable than a petrol car.
But yes speed wise, at least I would say that it makes much more sense to go for a diesel variant because most of the time it would be ahead of the petrol variant, except for an all out drag race where it will be the petrol that will come trumps.
Compared Swift VXI or VDI - Conclusion
At last, the conclusion is that both Maruti Swift variants, VXI and VDI, petrol and diesel respectively are made by the company taking into consideration the requirements and usage of its users, so if you want to rev up in city go for the Swift VXI petrol variant and if want to drive for some long distance keeping in mind less fuel usage, then go for the Swift VDI model. Best of luck to you and others how are looking forward to buy new Maruti Swift.

Sorry, Sony, when I wrote "gasoline" I meant it - "gas" - ahhh, this English language...
We are glad that we bought the Swift Vxi. It is giving us around 13.5 to 14.5 km in the city with AC on.
Infact, it is petrol car that pollutes the air. Diesel is known as green fuel, it is only a badly maintained diesel engine produces so much of carbon and unburned fuel substances into the air. The new diesel engines are cleaner and silent as petrol cars.
I would prefer buying VDi model as choosing diesel would save a lot of bucks. The price of petrol is approx 40% higher than that of diesel. Performance wise also its much acclaimed.
I'I sugst that its better to go for that cars which has power as well as speed + comfort and if i go with maruti suzuki cars the best cars among then are RITZ,SWIFT VXI,SX4 al these are the leadind cars in maruti. but if we talk abt light wt in that ALTO,800,WAGONR will be comfortable which gives speed as well as thrill.
Very nice

Although everything you said about diesel is correct, if I would need to choose between petrol and diesel car I would always choose PETROL, because it pollutes air far less then diesel. Last year, when my boyfriend was choosing car, he refused to even look on diesel cars, although diesel is much cheaper - because of pollution. Unfortunately we could not even think about buying a hybrid car - because prices of them are unbelievable high (what a shame).
There is also an option to combine gasoline and petrol (engines need to go to an adjustment for additional using gasoline) - what is much cheaper then using petrol only and much cheaper then diesel as well.
For the future we are planning to buy electric car (in few years electric cars will be affordable for average people ), and there we will finally drive a car without feeling guilty that we are polluting the planet.
Thank you for tip about Ritz Power Shift, I will certainly check this product.
