Amla or Indian Gooseberry Oil Herbal Remedy for Premature Graying of Hair

As mentioned in my previous article, Benefits of Indian Gooseberry, amla herb or Indian Gooseberry is the perfect herbal remedy for prevention and treatment of premature graying of hair.

According to Indian Ayurvedic Medicine and Western naturopathics, amla acts as a tonic for hair. It increases hair growth and pigmentation at the same time.

How to prepare amla oil to apply on your hair?

  • Cut amla or Indian gooseberry fruit into small pieces and let it dry in shade.
  • Now boil these pieces in coconut oil until solid amla fruit becomes dirt.
  • Boiling this will form a natural dark oil of Indian gooseberry or amla which can be separated from the dirt of amla fruit.
  • Now apply this amla oil on a regular basis on your scalp and hair. Application should be such that the amla oil gets settled in your scalp and you get a wet feeling on your scalp.
  • After about two weeks of regular use of amla oil, you will not only see improvement in our gray hair but you will also feel mentally relaxed and physically active.
  • Have you thrown away the dirt of amla fruit? No no, don’t do this.
  • Take the moistened remnants of Indian gooseberry amla fruit and mix it in a little bit of water.
  • Apply this water with moistened pieces of amla or Indian gooseberry on your hair half an hour before bath. After that rinse it off when washing hair. It is also a good nutrient for your hair.

My Personal Story of Black and Shining Hair

Me and my family use Dabur Amla and sometimes Brahmi Amla hair oil on a daily basis on our hair. Our hair are black and shining always. Moreover, there are many colleagues in my office with premature graying of hair between ages 25 to 30 and many of them are starting to have hair loss. Three friends are experiences entire hair loss from their forehead might be a hereditary factor. Actually when I entered my office premises a few days back, three of them were whispering something about me and when I got close to them, they said "HEY SONI ARE YOU APPLYING BLACK DYE ON YOUR HAIR?" and I said no. I don't need to because I don't have a single hair which is white or gray. So they asked, what do you use to keep your hairs so black, shining, and thick and this was the time, I told them that I am using Amla oils on my hair since I was 1 year of age and it has nourished my hairs forever and that is why I do not want to leave using this amazing Indian Gooseberry oil.

One more thing, my father and mother started using amla oil on my hair when I was one year old. Though my mother is not with us as she died due to cancer but my father has been applying mustard oil on his hair since he was a kid and he is 60 plus right now but the important thing is that my father initially experienced graying of hair at the age of 50 which is an amazing benefit provided by mustard oil, so in my next hub I will let you know about the amazing benefits of mustard oil on hair, skin, etc. By that time, keep on reading hubs on herbs and get good health.

Great hub! I've actually used AMLA and it just makes my hair feel so good - and smell good. Fortunately, I live in NYC where I have access to a huge Indian market!

I also came across some Chinese formulas but have not tried them yet. Another hubber wrote about B12 and her results - and as you mentioned those B vitamins are important. So I shall try it.

Thanks for all this information!

That's really great that you have a big Indian market nearby your house in NYC. Yes, amla oil is really beneficial for our hair. You can also read more information I have added in this hub regarding benefits of mustard oil on our hair. B Vitamins are also very important. Best of luck for trying these natural remedies.

Great info. Iam not gray yet at 52 but i will try it. Also I noticed a lot of men in my area wear those baseball like caps even my husband. He is going bald right in the front where he pulls the hat off. I know that his family have no problem with balding.I think it is from all the years of pulling this hat off. I have bookmarked this page and will be back to buy some oil. Thanks

This is some information which I might need soon in few years.

Yes Granny, I definitely agree with you on relationship between wearing hats and baldness because there is a scientific reason behind that. When a person keeps on wearing caps for long time, the skin over the scalp or hair roots from where the hair grows does not get proper nutrition and vitamins due to it being covered by the cap all time. I have seen many friends of mine who wear caps as a daily routine and have got baldness or hair loss. The skin cells do not get enough air also and this also prohibits the normal process of hair growth. By the way, thanks a lot for finding info in this hub good enough and also for bookmarking this hub Granny.

@walkin, yeah it is better to consider the use of amla oil and other herbal remedies before it is too late. Why not take action today when we know that it can cause some problem in the future. After all, prevention is better than cure.

Interesting info soni! I have a friend that started graying when she was 18. She said her mother did the same thing. I have to agree with you that stress does contribute to gray hair. My adopted sister is on the stressful side most of the time and she started graying in her 30's. Thanks for sharing, your insight. :)
