Tummy tuck or tummy surgery is an option for people who want to get back their beautiful and adorable tummy and who have not had success with all types of modified diets and exercises. Cosmetic tummy surgery is also called abdominal plastic surgery and is related to fat and cellulite removal surgery model to give your tummy a beautiful adorable look and appearance.

Tummy tuck involves the removal of excess abdominal skin and fat from the middle and lower parts of the abdomen, strengthening the muscle flaccidity providing proper muscle tone and firmness. The problem with loss of skin elasticity is a situation which usually occurs in people, especially women who have a relatively good shape in the past but due to sudden weight gain and then subsequent loss which happens in case of multiple pregnancies, after which the skin and abdominal muscles are relaxed and do not get back to their firm and toned status.

Tummy tuck is also beneficial for older patients with morbid obesity who have no improvement despite being on modified diet and exercises. These people also experience the problem of loss of skin elasticity and after undergoing tummy surgery; they are able to get back their flat, firm, and narrow waistlines.

How tummy tuck procedure is done?

The tummy tuck surgery can stretch about 2 to 5 hours, depending on each patient. Generally, an incision is made from hipbone to the other above the pubic bone, following the so-called bikini line. A second incision is made at the navel to free it from the abdominal wall (in mini dermolipectomy, the incision is smaller and the navel is separated from the abdominal wall).

The next step is to peel off the skin of the abdominal wall to the bottom edge of the last rib, exposing the rectus abdominis muscles. These muscles then require plication or in simple words are joined together by placing sutures in order to give firmness to the abdominal wall.

The skin is then stretched down and excess fatty layer of the skin is removed. A hole is made for the relocation of the umbilicus in an anatomic position and sutures are put in.

Tummy Tuck Postoperative Period

After the surgery is performed, the patient is to wear a special compression garment around the abdomen. The scars around the navel and lower abdomen get better over the course of time. However in some cases, it is necessary to make a scar revision under local anesthesia.

During the early days, the patients often experience somewhat swollen abdomen and some discomfort can be felt that is controlled with medications. The external points on the skin are removed between 5 and 7 days and the inner points leaving the ends of the incision are removed in 2 to 3 weeks.

If the patient's physical status before surgery is good which includes strong abdominal muscles, recovery from abdominoplasty will be faster. Some people return to work in about 2 weeks while others need much more time.

I know a couple of friends who had this treatment after having their children. The results are fantastic, they look georgeous. The only problem is the big scar that they have, but then, the ones who had a cesarean procedure had a scar in there already so the abdominoplasty did not make it any worse.

soni2006 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing this useful info. I did not know about the residual scars part.

Anath 2 years ago

Yes, scars can be very bad depending on your surgeon and your skin type. One of my friends has quite a little neat scar (it looks like her previous cesarean scar) but another one has and awful scar.

I have seen around here that you might be able to do a tattoo over one of this scars to dissimulate it.
