What is core training? Best core exercises
What is core training?
Core training is essentially strengthening your mid section as well as your middle and lower back because that forms the "core" so to speak for all your lifts. If you have a weak lower back or a torso, you have to say goodbye to heavy dead lifts, squats, and probably a lot of other exercises as the form for such exercises gets distorted.
Core training essentially stems from the fact that a strong core helps you derive strength for a lot of actions, which in turn form a part of a workout or even a sport.
An illustration would be boxing. Most people believe that good strong arms are a sure shot way to punching but as far as I know, I can say that for a fact since I was involved in the sport to a certain extent and have also read a lot about it that the strength in your punches comes from your core.
When one winds up for a hook or an upper cut, the arms merely act as tools or extensions and it is the whole body at work deriving strength from your feet positioning to how you twist your torso and then you release that mechanical energy into a well thrown punch for which of course, you need good hands. If you look at javelin throwers or hammer specialists, they have very strong mid sections and similar is the case for power lifters, even though they don't have the so-called six packs!
If one looks at Martial Arts, Bruce Lee always used to practice breathing techniques. This along with a strong core used to help him with insane amount of energy in his kicks and punches. It is actually science at work if you analyze it and it is like your body leveraging on a fulcrum to do some heavy work.
Best core exercises:
1. Squats.
2. Deadlifts.
3. Overhead press.
4. Pushups.
5. Sprinting.
6. Med ball/slam ball stuff.
7. Mostly all single limb exercise.
The above are some great exercises to build core stability and should be backbone of any workout routine. I have not tried med ball yet because the gym in which I workout doesn't have med balls and also it is too small for me to do things like wall slams.
