WorldSpace Subscription Rate worth or not?

Is the WorldSpace connection subscription rate at 1800 INR/year worth?

Answer: Hi Princeland, first of all, I would like to clear your mind that WordSpace subscription rate is 1800 Indian rupees per year and 150 rupees per month and not 1800 INR/month which you have mentioned in your hub request. Now read below my personal experience with WorldSpace satellite channel.

I bought the WorldSpace back in 2000. At that time, all the radio content was free, receivers were imported and good, and channels were awesome.

Over the years, things changed. They started charging subscription rates. It started with some 700 odd bucks, raised to 900, then 1200, to 1500 and now currently at 1800 rupees per month and after that they stopped.

Well it has become too expensive to spend 150 bucks a month, and the receivers of BPL, Sanyo, Diva and others are of inferior quality and built, that is why its price is dirt cheap.

The receiver they are giving for 1500 bucks used to sell for Rs 6500 when it was launched. Also, BPL and Diva receivers give a humming sound on low volumes.

Check the receiver you have? In my opinion try to get a Hitachi or Panasonic satellite receiver, see if someone is selling his or her old receivers and you will feel the difference in sound quality.

At 1800 INR/year rate, I can actually buy an MP3 player and with an internet connection, I can download all my favorite songs, burn them, and listen whenever and wherever unlike my satellite radio fixed in one room.

But something which holds me on with WorldSpace is that I took mine on a holiday in the mountains. There was no internet over there, no mobile coverage, but there was WorldSpace.

So I think that either WS increase the quality of the receivers they are selling or decrease subscription rate to 1000 per year. Then, it would be really beneficial for WS also and also for customers.
