The Moon and the Nightingale
66If we think that only humans and animals can fall in love, then we might not be right. Even nightingale and moon can fall in love and this poem depicts their love that ends with tragedy and then reunion that you can experience via this sad love poetry.
The enchanting moon and the somber night
Got into a really terrible fight...
She came to the earth unaccompanied by him
Making the night sky even more dim…..
The naughty stars winked at the blushing sea
The nocturnal owls were filled with glee…..
Nestled in the silver fir, they hooted out
The croaking toad was all upon a pout….
The majestic mountains wore a black cloak
Made conspicuous by the giant oak….
Its banks by the angry river were slapped
On seeing this, the jesting cedars clapped….
No creature, except the wolf preferred roaming
In the glen at gloomy gloaming
Tiny lambs snuggled up in the lap of the valley deep
Who lulled them to a peaceful sleep…
A nightingale on beholding the sky
In a poignant tone began to cry…..
She waited for the moon for so long
Coz she loved him even more than her melodious song….
Unable to bear her condition the moon uprist
Risking the night’s anger and the dense mist…..
The songster was overwhelmed with joy
The night stared at the lovers coy….
She serenaded to him all night
Could never imagine life without the moonlight….
Gradually the sun ascended in the sky
With helpless gestures, they bid goodbye….
As she was reminiscing that ecstatic night
A heartless hunter caught her sight…..
No sooner had the arrow left the bow
The clouds rained tears of woe…..
The moon reappeared with tremendous poise
His ears quite addicted to the nightingale’s voice….
But to his agony, no sweet bird did sing
Instead, he saw her dead with an injured wing….
Quite used to those nights full of elation
He just couldn’t bear the pangs of separation….
Suddenly, a faint voice was heard
It was the spirit of her lover bird…..
No sooner had they embraced, they became one
In his reviving aura, she was spun…..
Her tender body radiated a divine light
Finally, they were together on that mystic night…..
This poem depicts the deep love between the moon and the nightingale just like all other lovers around the world. It also shows the anger and hatred of society in the form of a “heartless hunter” who don’t love and also don’t love lovers. They just want to kill, terrorize other people, dominate with cruelty but at the same time there are a few people who live in their own world of freedom, joy, respect, and love. This is our world, whatever it is; beautiful or ugly, we have to live our lives, play our roles, and then depart just like the nightingale departed.
