Short Poem - United We Stand, Divided We Fall
70Unity is the key to success for everyone. Whether it is a nation, an organization, a family, or friends, remaining united and working together like a team is always fruitful then getting divided and working alone. In history, several nations were divided and ruled by clever men just because there was lack of spirit to remain united among the population.
So today via this poem, I have tried to explain the very old but true saying that United we stand, divided we fall. Though it is a very short poem and will take very little of your time but it gives out the message loud and clear.
The nasty black clouds shooed away the sun
Over the king of the sky, the rain had won.
Such resentment, the sun could no longer bear
And soon at the droplets, it began to glare.
A spectacular rainbow marked the defeat of the rain
Finally, the enemy had been slain.
But there was an agitation in the sky
The clever birds shot up to spy.
The seven colors had begun to fight
Each flaunting her so called might
Rosy red shouted out in disgust,
“Orange is as menial as a speck of dust.”
Glossy green claimed with an angry face,
“Yellow is encroaching on my space.”
Indigo was rebuked by beautiful blue,
“I’m unfortunate to be residing with you.”
The virtuous violet, a silent spectator
Soon proved to be a good orator
She asked her pals to end the squabble
And obediently did they stopped their babble.
She then started to wisely explain,
“By your petty arguments, no one will gain.
But soon they resumed their rattle
And thus, carried on their verbal battle
Frustrated of each other, they planned
That each would have her separate band.
All the shades did their best
To get separated from the rest
Extremely hard had they tried
And in the attempt, they all died.
They were the daughters of the same white light
Whose unbiased love had held them tight
The dirge of their death was sung by the birds
The song was painful, though it had no words.
The dying colors had given a mournful call,
“United we stand, divided we fall.”
I sing this poem in front of my 4-year-old daughter and her school friends so that they learn what is the benefit in remaining united and what is the loss in fighting with each other. It is my utmost belief that when these types of things are taught to kids at a young age, it remains forever in their hearts, mind, and soul. Plus learning things with the help of poems and stories is really creative and kids never lose interest in the poem or story. The moral of story gets into the deepest core of their hearts.
