Re: RC flying - About 40 years ago (yikes!), I was dating a young man who loved line-controlled airplane flying and taught me how! We had so much fun. Shortly after that, he spent a long cold winter in Wisconsin building a beautiful model, putting the balsa parts together piece by fragile piece, adding shining blue mylar on the wings and doping it (I think that's what you called putting on that glue stuff. I think the wing span was about 4 ft.or maybe even six ft. It was beautiful. I had bought him an expensive Heath RC electronic kit which he put together as well. That spring we went out to a big open field to fly that beauty. I thought we should move our car since we had experienced line controlled models crashing into our batteries at the spot where we launched them, so we moved the car up the hill and far away from our launching area.

Tim got the plane up in no time and I was delighted to see it soaring and zipping around in the air. There were football goal posts in this field and I was amazed at Tim's skill in weaving the plane in and out of the posts. I turned to look at him to say how proud I was, but what I saw was a face drained of all blood and a person who looked like he was in a catatonic shock "I have no idea what I'm doing," he said, at which point the plane turned belly-up (as I remember) with the motor still at full throttle and the whole beautiful thing now came zooming downward in an angle headed right toward the car we had just moved "out of the way." In a second came the sickening sound of a movable force crashing into an immoveable object, i.e. the window of our 60-something Pontiac. It was so completely unbelieveable that we fell down to the ground laughing. Needless to say, the laughing stopped as Tim picked up the pieces of balsa wedged into our windshield. The next day, I called the insurance company and told them the whole story, certain that we would not be covered. After a long silence (at which time I think the person on the other end was trying to restrain herself from laughing) she said, "Well, yes, we can cover that. It comes under "falling objects."

My son 9 years of age is very passoinate about it but i do not have any knowledge about it, so i hesitate in spending money without knowledge.
