Best Priced Car - Is Maruti Ritz a serious blow to Hyundai i10?
87I test drive Maruti Ritz in a Maruti showroom in Delhi yesterday and here is my review on that.
Ritz versus i10
Maruti Ritz is a very cool and nice car but, I do not feel that Maruti Ritz has given a serious blow to Hyundai i10, which is enjoying good overwhelming sales up until now.
Previously people were thinking that Ritz will be like Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, and Fiat Punto, but when Ritz was launched in April 2009, they were surprised to see that Ritz is just targeting Hyundai i10 and this seems really interesting, as i10 is selling like some hot-cake up until now. Maruti Ritz is a bit smaller than Maruti Swift but it is bigger than i10 against which the Maruti Company had actually placed it.
Ritz has 2 engine options that are petrol and diesel whereas i10 is offering 2 petrol engines.
Ritz's size and competitive price backed up with Maruti's service are some plus points.

Ritz versus Swift
If you will compare Maruti Ritz with Maruti Swift, it just has the same functions, which the Swift is having like the pickup, diesel engine, etc., but it is more comfortable to drive than Swift. It is more spacious than Swift. The boot space and the rear space also. The gearbox is too small and very comfortable to use and it gives Ritz a sporty look. The gearbox is same as in I-10.
Maruti Ritz has an advantage the same way the Swift has, as it is built on an advanced technology than the Swift. It has an option of folding the rear seat with 60-40% ratio, the width of the rear seat is only 130 mm less than that of the Swift, higher roof, cost is less than that of Swift, greater mileage than Swift, dashboard mounted gear, etc.
Ritz's equipment is same as the Swift.
Engine performance is almost the same. In Ritz, the 60:40 rear seat split enables you to increase your boot space when you are driving with extra luggage. The two-tone dashboard looks kind of okay with tachometer placed on it. The upper handles in the cabin are foldable unlike in Swift.
Driving quality of Ritz
The driving quality is somewhat same as Swift, but I felt handling is at its best in Swift. It has an amazing mileage and is perfect for city driving with its super-smooth gearshifts and an extremely light steering, which is also required by a car for its performance.
Ritz's 1147 cc engine has a good pickup and acceleration too. One more aspect where Maruti Ritz really scores is the color option. It has some amazing colors like racing green, bakers chocolate, and blue blaze.
Disadvantages of Maruti Ritz
1. Ritz engine is only 1147 CC whereas that of Swift is 1300 CC.
2. Ritz is having a good looking front-end but the back with boomerang-shaped tail-lamps and angle of rear windshield with tailgate is really weird.
3. Due to Ritz's 1147 CC engine, it lacks the punch at higher speeds.
At last, I would say that Maruti Ritz is not a great problem for Hyundai i10.

You are right Erick, traffic and parking Choas are there in India for a long time back and will be there for a long time unless and until Indian government is not taking any major steps to improve the transportation system and condition of roads and parking system, but despite these things a lot of cars are unleashed in the Indian market and people are buying them in India.
I think Maruti Ritz looks awesome and it will definitely overthrow i10 in the coming months, especially I like Maruti Ritz Diesel which is coming on TV ads as showing 4.65 lacs but when it comes to actually buying a car, the rates vary and I think the diesel variant for Ritz will cost around 4.95 lacs on road plus one more thing, people who were previously saying that Maruti Ritz's back looks weird and it looks like it has got hit from the back. Those people are now admiring about Ritz's weird back. It's all sheep walk.
Yes, I agree. I have also mentioned about Ritz's weird back in this hub and I have seen the ad and now it looks awesome to me. I am also planning to buy my next car and Ritz is in my list.

Yes Swift is the best but Ritz is also coming up now.
I feel design is a very subjective issue, so it shouldn't really count. I may love the way the Ritz/i10 looks but then my friend may hate it! I feel how one must judge a car is by comparing its build quality, reliability, value for money factor and fuel economy against its competitors.
I test drove both the Ritz and the i10 and came to the conclusion, that Ritz is the better choice because it is better value for money. The quality of both cars is admirable, not quite Skoda Fabia material but still quite good! I am told both return similar figures in the fuel economy department. In reliability as well, both are comparable, in fact both are pretty closely matched. Where the Ritz outdoes the i10 is in terms of value for money. The i10 is surprisingly more expensive despite being smaller in size to the Ritz. The top-of-the-line i10 Asta GLS M/T (with sunroof)is priced at Rs. 4,96,463 whereas the Ritz ZXI retails for Rs. 4,80,000 - a huge price difference of 16,463 rupees!!! Even when features are compared, both stand neck to neck, more-or-less.
I guess the winner is quite straight forward!

Definitely I will do that. I am really busy doing fitness and natural medicine hubs nowadays and that's why I have little time for doing that. I am doing some research and will come up with a detail oriented hub so that they are no backfires.
Ritz looks impressive. Better than all other hatchback. price, looks, space, are far better than any other cars in this segment. The mileage would play vital role..

Hi Ritesh, go ahead with whatever suits your budget. The idea should be to get good quality keeping in mind affordability, fuel consumption, and maximum facilities.
Both cars mentioned above are selling like hot cakes these days. You have to choose which route you wanna go keeping in mind my points. If you are getting power window and central locking with i10 go for that. Best of luck.

Is ABS and airbags are much needed facilities in current scenario.. As RITZ ZXI model both have these facilites but my budget exceeds.
And one more thing is that my monthly run will be 1000 km at max then should I go with diesal version? while difference between petrol and diesal version is about to 80000 rs.
Both ABS and airbags are optional. They add more safety to your car. If you run your car on highways and speed between traffic lights, you need airbags in case of an unfortunate happening because airbags deploy when you hit something or get a big jerk from front. Also full form of ABS is anti lock braking system and it is a type of anti skid system preventing your car tyres from skidding in sudden stops.
Price of diesel is lower than Petrol, so if you are shelling out 80K more for diesel, it will be an investment for you which will pay in the long run. Buying a diesel car pays off in coming years. It depends on you what you want to get. I can only give some advice. Best of luck Ritesh.
I will suggest to have ABS and airbags. ABS improves performance in wet roads against skidding and air bags can keep you safe in some accidents. So, do spend some extra half a lakh if possible. Life is more important then money.

I have ordered for a Ritz ZXI Glistering Grey. And its taking way too long for the dealer to dleiver me the preffered color. However due the pressure that i had applied on him, The dealer has come up with an option, he is ready to give me a Ritz VXI ABS(White)+ registration with the RTO+A basic music systems and few other accesories and for this i have to pay 20,000 extra. I am a bit confused and a bit skeptical about such a lucrative offer. Please advice what should be the best thing to go for. Also can i enhance my braking system to ABS at later stages.
Hi Nikhil G, that is a very lucrative offer and you will save approximately 25000 to 30000 INR on that offer. ABS is a plus point and it is better to get it fitted from the company rather than upgrading it in a car without ABS. Plus one more thing, I know Glistering Grey is a good color and I saw a brand new Wagon R yesterday of same color but my friend white color always look awesome as it is an evergreen color. All new colors come and go according to the trends but white and black colors always remain there. Better to grab that offer. If I were you, I would have done that.
I test drove both i10 and Ritz. I felt, Ritz is more solid looking car, and gives me confidence when I drive. i10 proves to be lifeless, steering control is not as precise as Ritz. Also, i heard i10 mileage is very less. I am going to go for Ritz. !!!

when compared to i10, Maruti Ritz offers more features and gives a consistent mileage of 16 kmpl. The built quality is great and the interiors are refreshing. Maruti has given a international standard car at an attractive price. Ritz easily outscores i10 in all aspects!!!

I am a proud owner of Ritz diesel VDi. The 1.3 L diesel engine is pucca and very refined too. Ritz has got enough reasons to delight me, as it has cool blue interiors, with relaxed driving position, nice leg rooms and head rooms and sufficient boot. i10 has brown and beige that reflects sunlight on the dashboard and hampers the visibility. Also, Ritz has good ground clearance and suspension is great even in bad roads. If you are looking for a hatchback in 4-5 lakh range i am sure ritz is better option than i10
Very informative Post.I bought my Ritz Vxi 4 weeks back. So far done 800KM. Mostly within CITY. Really good car to drive in. BUT the rattling from driver side door panel is persisting. Heard lot on this issue in other blogs as well. Otherwise a VFM buy for whole family.

Bought Ritz VDI -Deisel just 2 weeks back, its wonderfull and very good in comfort, performance, much space, specially for hieght people. my friend bought i10, this also good but mileage is less also this is avial in only petrol.

breaking distance (from 80kmph to 0kmph ) for i10 is 30mts whereas it is 40mts for Ritz. Now what do you say? which is better and safer option.
Ritz is more spacious and stylish having awesome eye catching features equipped with standard safety ABS, seat belts, dual air bag for the front passengers and auto locking doors.
I10 is no match to Ritz, and surely not an appropriate comparison.

Decided to change from my swift vxi 1.3 after 6 years and looked for options. Want to stick on to Maruti or Hyundai due to mileage and cost effectiveness, I have test driven Ritz Vxi, i10 sports kappa, and new swift.
Decided to drop new swift as it is the same old wine in the OLD bottle itself. Swift is offcourse a great car, but misses the 'new factor'. It is the same old swift and I think maruti should have continued the same old model rather than producing a new one.
Now it is i10 Sports Kappa Vs Ritz Vxi.(Cant afford Ritz diesel)
i10 is a great small car. Surprised to see that it is smaller than my first Santro xing. Size is slightly bigger than Alto, thats it. Nice interiors, in-built music system, very good handling. I feel it is slightly over priced for such a small car. Promised mileage is around 14kmpl in Bangalore city traffic, which is okay.
Ritz won my heart the moment I entered the car. Spacious, new-style, visibility, pickup, all good. Like many, I dint like the rear styling of Ritz when it was launched. But after 2-3 years and seeing so many of them on the roads, I started liking the new style. Moreover, this is a new design (zero pollusion or something they call it), which will be seen in many of the upcoming cars. They say Hyundai and Toyota already started with this new design.
Now decided on Ritz and going to book it.

I was recently in India and I was amazed at the current transportation system. True more are buying cars but the roads are so full of others on bikes and other things that they are really not ready for lots of cars to be unleashed as well.
