In The Eyes of a Woman
70A man was making his way through the desert sand
Where mischievous mirages made sea out of land
The sun was blazing bright with all its might
A virtual sea kissing the golden beach was a spellbinding sight.
He beheld a woman with her face lurking behind the veil
Sparing her eyes every feature it did conceal.
With her sturdy hands, she weeded the garden
But was unable to weed the petty minds of men!
Suddenly, she raised her doe-eyes
The very gaze of them was sufficient to hypnotize.
The fatigue of the weary traveler vanished
The thought of her chores from her mind was banished.
She sat still and he stopped walking
And their eyes did all the talking.
He saw in them a girl, puny and shy
Waving her school-going brothers goodbye
While they gamboled, she swept the floor
But she couldn’t sweep away the adamant fallacies galore!
When her brethren, in comfort slept
Beneath the summer sky she wept.
The girl then grew into a dame
Craving for the luring name and fame
But, instead of a stethoscope
All she got was a shattered hope.
Now he could clearly understand
Her dreams had been buried under the desert sand.
With neither words, nor wail
She expounded a woman’s woeful tale.
From inside the house, there came a call,
“Come, clean up the dining hall.”
She came back to her senses and had to depart
He evanesced with her picture etched in his heart.
Her mesmerizing eyes drove him back to that place
He still remembered that mystic face.
A wish to converse with her arouse
So, he headed towards her somber house.
What he saw was utterly shocking
The eyes were shut which had done all the talking.
The corpse lay outside a room
Her wrinkled hands clutching a web-covered broom
Her cursed life was full of monotony and grief
So, from her menial tasks she finally, got relief.
She had died while removing the cobwebs on the wall
Poor lady! She couldn’t remove the cobwebs of the society at all!
“In the eyes of a woman” depicts the awful state of most women in our society. How far the world has gone and how boldly we say that women are standing side by side to men today, the pity state of women from around the world still doing those menial tasks could never be concealed. Still men are dominating them and this is the reason they lack behind, especially in developing countries where most population is still living in villages and the life of a woman is as worse as it was centuries ago.
Time has come to liberate women and set them free from men dominance, confinement, and oppression. Time has come to empower women such that they stand self sufficient in every part of their life.
