Hub request: I am planning to go to Leh in June. Please suggest a good itinerary or any good tour operator service?
Best Season and climate to Visit Ladakh
Planning to visit Ladakh and confused? Don't worry, just go through the following paragraph and learn about things such as "when to visit" Leh, Ladakh.
Unlike other regions in the Himalaya mountains, Ladakh has 9 months of winter and 3 months of summer, so best time to visit Leh Ladakh is in the summer and that is from June to September.
After that period, temperature plunges to sub Arctic level and this region becomes too cold for comfort.
By early October, all the trekking paths in higher altitudes are closed because of heavy snowfall.
One more reason for visiting Leh Ladakh in the summer month is that, this is the right time when some Ladakh's important Buddhist monasteries or Gompas host their annual festivals which are spectacular.
June July is also the best time because later on the ice melts.
I would suggest you go on you own with friends or fellow bikers, as going through tour operators is just like spoon feeding, no fun.
Even I did it with some fellow riders and we all were doing it for the first time and trust me, you do not need to worry, but it is your own wish and it also depends that how and with whom you are going.
If you are going with your family with women also, then it is safe to go for a tour operator service. There are also daily flights which go from New Delhi to Leh. Read below.
Daily flights from Delhi to Leh
Yes, you will get daily flights from Delhi to Leh. Kingfisher flies daily, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways on alternate days.
You can also check this website for tour operators, as this will provide you the complete information on Ladakh and tour operators of Ladakh.
Hotel Options in Leh
My travel agent when I got there with my family gave me following options in Leh - Hotel Auspicious, Hotel Lumbini, and Hotel Kaal.
In Leh, you will find several options depending on your budget. You can also visit, http://www.duniyagolhai.com/
If you are at Keylong , Hotel Chandra Bhaga is the best, as it is owned by the Himachal Pradesh government and has an awesome location and decent staff.
If you need more information, please do let me know through comment and I will be glad to help you out.
Two different routes to visit Leh Ladakh
I guess you already know that there are two ways of reaching Leh from Delhi:
One is through Manali>Rohtang>Changla>Upshi and Leh. Other is through Srinagar>Kargil>Leh. Both these routes have their own advantages and both the routes will not disappoint you. The climax is Leh and once you reach there, you can go north to Kardungla and Nubra, South to Upshi, East to Moriri And Pangong and west until Lamayuru.
The best would be to travel from Delhi to Leh via Manali and then reach Delhi back via Srinagar so that you do not miss out anything. You can follow the map in reverse as well. I suggest stay in Leh city and make it as your base camp. The trip completely depends upon how much time you take to cover each place. Be assured you will not home sick or bored. In fact when you are about to leave from Leh, you feel sick of home.
Do remember to carry AMS drugs and junk foods for consumption at remote places. If you want details about places to stay, cabs to hire, places to eat and bikes to hire, you can search google for contacts for service providers.
If you are a photography fan, this place is your heaven. Trust me, your index finger will be itching always and if you use an SLR, you will be seeing the places more through your camera view finder than naked eyes. Also, remember to carry extra batteries for your video cameras.

Hey I have been to Leh, believe me it’s simply the beauty of nature. The main tourists’ attraction is stunning landscape but Tibetan Buddism is another main reason of Leh’s popularity. Yes summer is the best times to visit but whenever you plan to visit the Leh don’t forget to visit the Hemis Moanstery, Zanskar Valley, Padum Valley, Parang Le trek. I would love to go there again and again..
hie .. thank you for all the informations given above .. i would be obliged if you could tell me if there is a direct route by train from delhi to leh, ladhak ?
please reply asap at ayishahmansoor@hotmail.com
Hello-Soni-When are you going next by mobike, I may join.Nice one.
Hi, I had also visited Kausli this week. It's like a heaven on earth i think all people should visit at once.
I am planning a trip around teh last week of September. I am told that it is towards the end of tourism season although the weather is still not too hostile. Thouhgt I should check with teh experts.
Also, is it a good time to bike around Leh? I plan to rent a bike locally for this. I am travelling with my wife and both of us have teh adventurous spirit in us.
What temperatures am I bound to experience in Sept. Also, with the recent flash floods will things ease up in time for my trip?
Hi Soni,
I've just found your hubpage interesting and it's very helpful since am planning to visit India for the first time in the second half of October for a week and still have a vague idea where to go..;-)
I had Himalaya in mind, but after reading your comments, looks like October is not the best time to go...so I'll be considering to see the country major highlights, i.e golden triangle, taj mahal, etc...I've checked through some tour operators offering the program.
Could you suggest me any good, reliable tour operators in Delhi for budget traveler like me?
Thanks
Epha

I examined your article; information was really excellent. This information is very useful for tourists those who want to visit Ladakh in India. Find more Indian destination of India - http://www.cheapticket.co.uk/india.aspx
I am planning to go to Leh in june- july this year for trekking with a friend. This Will be My Third visit to Leh. The other years was in september, oktober. It was very nice. At High altitude it was of course cooler. We had some problem with the plane fr.o.m. Leh going home. Thát late in season the plane cannot always fly because of weather. Better have an extra day so you do not miss your fight connection in Dehli.
The other year we was there during the catastrophic landslade. We was out there on the trekking when it all happened. All the raining. We are longiing to come back for all the nice people, the tibetan atmosphere, the culture, the nature.
Just me and another friend. To women of age.
Your article was very informative and useful for upcoming visitors. Leh and Ladakh are
two beautiful place of India. If you are planning your next visit of Leh Ladakh then you must come during the onset of summers.
Visitors can travel to Leh Ladakh by air and road. You can find regular services from Jammu, Delhi, Srinagar and Chandigarh or you can also bring flights from Shimla that hardly take 40 minutes. Leh is the district of Jammu and Kashmir. If you are from abroad and want see this beautiful place get flights to India http://www.southalltravel.co.uk/ and enjoy world one of gorgeous tourist destination.

A really impressive hub soni. You have answered the question in a perfect manner, you have even covered hotel options, flight details, and routes to visit Ladakh but can you tell me something about less traveled routes in Ladakh. I am an adventurous person and having fun at less traveled routes in my hobby. I love visiting new places and meeting new people. I have asked a question about the same in the hub request section. I hope you will answer the question.
